A special spin class held Sunday at the Sag Harbor Gym raised money for the I-Tri empowerment-through-triathlon program for teenage girls.
The sold-out class raised more than $1,300 for I-Tri, “every penny of which will go to providing the equipment and training necessary for this year’s I-Tri girls to cross the finish line of our new Hamptons Youth Triathlon,” Theresa Roden, the program’s founder, said.
The class on Sunday was organized by Kelly Kinirons-Kelly, the vice president of I-Tri’s board. Her trainer, Matt Heavey, who led the class, is a longtime supporter of I-Tri. He recruited Roland Walker, a well-known spin instructor on the East End, who led the second half of the class.
The triathlon will take place for the first time at Long Beach in Noyac on July 15 at 5:30 p.m.
I-Tri is working with its largest group ever — 75 girls from four schools on the South Fork (Montauk, Springs, Southampton, and Sag Harbor). Ten of the girls took part in the spin class on Sunday, using bikes paid for by donors.
